Surrey County Council
We act as a critical friend - offering constructive input on Surrey County Council’s climate policies, targets, and progress. We are actively providing support during the transition to East and West Surrey Unitary Authorities.
Strategic Recommendations for Climate Action
Surrey County Council has developed Strategic Recommendations for Climate Action. These Recommendations are intended as a basis for climate strategy in the two new Unitary Authorities, East and West Surrey.
Surrey Climate Commission convened and chaired the Expert Panel that advised on the Recommendations.
Local Government Reform
Surrey Climate Commission is engaging with the leaders of the new Unitary Authorities to support them in drafting policies ready for Vesting Day on 1st April 2027, when East Surrey Council and West Surrey Council will take full responsibility for delivering all local services across their areas.
Thought Leadership
By providing an independent and authoritative voice, Surrey Climate Commission offers thought leadership to the public sector in Surrey by facilitating policy debate, spreading best practices, and bridging the gap between national climate goals and local public action.
Independent Analysis & Advice
We provide independent analysis and research to inform local policy decisions.
For example, in 2021, in conjunction with the University of Surrey, we produced a Baseline Study of Surrey's carbon emissions.
More recently, we chaired the Expert Panel that advised Surrey County Council’s Climate Change Delivery Plan 2026-2030.
